Ruby City is located in “uptown” Franklin, N.C., just north of the Georgia border on Hwy 441, and southewest of Asheville, just beyond Sylva and Dillsboro. For those of you visiting the Blue Ridge Mountains or Great Smoky Mountains for the first time, we are quite literally at the gateway to both great attractions. Franklin is fortunate to have many draws for tourists due to its’ location. Gem mining has been a long-time favorite, and probably one of our most popular attractions. The town has extra notability due to the popular “Cash and Treasures” show that airs on TLC weekly. Ruby City is honored to be one of two businesses featured

Who would expect a world-class museum in this small mountain town...
Years of collecting, buying, trading, and accepting private donations, we have accumulated an amazing private collection that is hard to beat.
Our little “stash” in the mountains include thousands of gem and mineral specimens, including fluorescent (glow-in-the-dark) pieces, fossils dating to millions of years old, petrified wood from all over the world, REAL ivory carvings from the Orient, an expansive Native American collection of pipes, tools, and other daily artifacts, and one of the largest, private pre-Columbian collections in the world. And the best part of it all, it is included with your visit.
